It's designed for 5.1 micing/mixing, that's from a dvd called Surrounded by Drums featuring Simon, Aronoff and Mel Gaynor.

Here I go...Wheeee!...

Too many armchair psychologists in here! ;cP

Reality check.

I'm with Pete.

People can have silly conjecture all day long about how "I dont like how music-superhero so-&-so continuously does or doesn't do this or that"...& how "it aint Gadd's groove" [who's IS?! It's GADD's for pete's sake]...but...

In the meantime, DC is answering the phone off the hook to record & / or play live with Scofield, McLaughlin, Uncle Moe, Steely, Tom Coster, P-Funk, Niacin, Santana, balh, blah, & alongside Vinnie, Gregg, Tony, & Virgil yada-yada in clinic, and hanging...when any of you guys can say you've played with all these artists, then ya's can start up some boo'sheet like this... ;cP

Now b4 any of you whippersnappers starts arguing about how "just because I'm not or never have played w any of those artists doesnt mean I dont have a valid opin" blah blah...can it.

& b4 u call me a DC fanboy, well...I am a fan, but I'm just simply stating a not-too-often recognized fact...

[Oh, BTW...I too have heard a few repetitive things in DC's playing]...
So what. So do all of you. And me too. [& not ONE a' you mofros betta sign on here & say that you've NEVER repeated NOT ONE single lick, phrase, or motif in your ENTIRE friggin LIFE... *bleah* *phhffftt* :cp

Woo-hoo!

Slam-DUNK!

Taste some humble-pie!

Feelin' a little frisky tonight!
["Eeeeasy tigers!"]

*Ding! Ding!* Round...what?! J/K

LOL

Not a drop, my brutha'man! [You'd see my words slurred! Besides, those days are deliberatedly very few & far between anymore!]

BUT...it IS late [slap-happy], & it DOES look like I need to call it a day...[much to some of your delight] ...

Hehe, well matricks, to my native english friends, I do a pretty good 'generic' american accent and a not so bad wigga accent. But I'm sure if you or any american heard me, it would probably sound like prince phillip trying to be snoop doggydogg.

I agree with nevesis overall. I don't think it's mandatory that a drummer should reinvent himself just because others do. Dennis is already an individual person and player, and he seems to be staying an individual by the very fact he doesn't feel the need to follow so called set rules.

I love his playing. I've been listening to him on and off for years, and it's never struck me as something important that he should change. Not to me personally anyway. As has been said, his chops are so incredible what more chould he really do anyway?

Look at say, pit drummers and everyday session drummers. They learn their trade and work forevermore doing shows, recordings, etc. They're not required to reinvent themselves because they're simply doing the jobs that are asked of them. Dennis is basically doing the same thing, only he happens to be in the spotlight and not an unknown sideman. We only expect dennis to reinvent himself because he's famous, and everyone's talked about him and compared him to other drummers for years.
But that's just his fans and critics. For him, I guess he's just doing a job like those 'sidemen', (and a damned good one) , to keep himself working and having fun as well I imagine.

I gotta tell you, I saw him twice with Mike Stern in NYC a while back and the second time I saw him he sounded completely different- in a better way. His approach was jazzier and more appropriate I thought. So maybe he is improving/evolving- just on the gig...where it counts.

I'm still not too crazy about his solos, but drum solos in general tend to bore me anyway...
